50 Envelope ($1-$50) Giving Plan . . .to celebrate 50 years of the ELCA World Hunger Ministry. At the May, 2024 DE-MD Synod Assembly, a resolution was unanimously passed, celebrating 50 years work of our ELCA World Hunger Ministry. One of the “Resolved” portions of the resolution encouraged churches to expand their giving, by implementing a 50 Envelope Giving Plan. Earlier this year, Bishop Bill Gohl suggested this plan to the Hunger Task Force, as a way to celebrate the 50 years of our denomination’s World Hunger Ministry, and raise additional funds to support it. How is this done? Using space on a large bulletin board, each church would tape 50 small envelopes (3”x6” or so) to that board. Each envelope would have a different dollar figure printed on it. The 50 envelopes would be - $1, $2, $3. . .all the way through $49, $50. Members would be encouraged to take one envelope, filling it with that amount of money. (It is best not to replace envelopes as they are taken down, for it would be a joy to take them all or several down. Obviously, if all envelopes are taken, members can continue to contribute.) Yes - publicize the display. There could be a title above it, “Celebrating 50 years of our ELCA World Hunger Ministry.” Helping with the display - colorful fliers and posters are available at www.elca.org 50 Years. (Scroll down to print posters and brochures.). Checks should be made out to one’s local congregation, then the total forwarded to the ELCA. The display might best be up for one month, giving members time to respond AND time to provide educational information about the ELCA World Hunger Program. Educational materials, videos, bulletin inserts, studies are available at www.elca.org/Resources. Note the rows of ELCA ministries. . .so scroll down to the 5th row, to ELCA World Hunger. Consider promoting this 50th Anniversary throughout a given month. Praise God for our Lutheran witness and generous way of supporting those battling hunger and poverty. And thank you to our Assembly delegates for passing the Resolution and encouraging everyone’s participation.
