global mission

The Delaware-Maryland Synod has shared a companion synod relationship with members of the Estonian Lutheran Church and the Tampere Diocese of the Finnish Lutheran Church for two decades. The ministry has involved visitation exchanges between the various countries, and shared communication of history, ministry and mission.
The Estonian-Finnish Task Force is the synod’s team to help facilitate and grow this ministry. To find out more, or to become involved in sharing God’s work with our European sisters and brothers, please contact Pastor Joe and Carol Lettrich.

Tanzania Task Force

Thanks to donations from many individuals and congregations, the Bunda District Designated Hospital in Tanzania now has a dependable and clean water source! This new water supply will help the hospital fulfill its mission, and the staff estimates it will save $500 per month by not purchasing contaminated water from Lake Victoria water.

Several years ago, the Synod’s Tanzania Task Force (TTF) paid for an assessment performed by Project CURE prior to sending a shipment of medical supplies. The evaluation determined a dependable water supply was essential for the hospital to fulfill its mission. At that time, the hospital collected water from the rooftops through cisterns which was used during the dry months to supply water needs. However, this water was not sufficient (partially because troops of baboons would drink many gallons and leave the remainder contaminated). The hospital staff estimated spending $750 USD per month to buy additional water from the District which was transported from Lake Victoria.

The TTF used your donations to drill a borehole well and provide an electric pump that became operational in early January. Now this well supplies over 10,000 gallons of fresh, clean water every 24 hours. And, the hospital estimates it will save $500 per month on their water bill.

The staff and management of the Bunda Hospital thanks everyone who financially supported this important project. Please know the contributions you offer to the DE-MD Synod’s Tanzania Task Force make a tangible difference for the thousands of people served every year by the Bunda Hospital.

Please make checks for future projects payable to DE-MD Synod. Checks can be sent to Darrell Dempster (TTF Treasurer) so donations can be properly recorded and deposited in the Synod’s bank account:
