CANDIDACY

Candidacy in the ELCA is the church-wide process of preparation and formation leading to approval for public ministries: pastor and deacon.

These principles guide the process, which is grounded in a culture of hospitality and nurturing:

• All partners are accountable to one another for the integrity of the process.
• The church determines who is appropriate for rostered ministry.
• Those providing leadership during the process are equipped and trained.
• Evaluation of candidates is fair and thorough.
